Our Story

Welcome to Calmnesta! Calmnesta started out with a small team of students—people just like you and me. From the initial idea to every blanket donated, we use our passion and time to strive to make the world a better place.

The Heart of Our Work

Dignity

We believe every person deserves respect and to be treated as a valued member of society.

Awareness

We use our products as a platform to spread awareness of disability rights and inclusion.

Community

Like a nest, we aim to create a safe, supportive space where everyone contributes to the well-being of others.

Empathy

We work to deepen understanding of the struggles faced by disabled individuals and to encourage compassion in action.

Service

We dedicate our resources and efforts to making tangible improvements in the lives of disabled individuals.

Matthew Zhang

President

I am Matthew, and I am a sophomore at Choate Rosemary Hall. I created this foundation because of my grandma, who has been physically disabled for over twenty years. Throughout my life, I have seen many systemic injustices and biases against her and disabled communities. However, their perseverance and courage were evident in their everyday experiences with physical adversities and the glances of strangers, which truly inspired me. Our goal is to create a platform that advocates accessibility, raises awareness about disability inclusion, and empowers individuals through community-driven initiatives. We strive to bridge the gap between awareness and action by promoting education, empathy, and equity for all people with disabilities. Through our projects and efforts, I hope to build a world where compassion, dignity, and equal opportunity are the standards, not exceptions.

Mooncy Li

Vice President

I’m Mooncy, and I am a junior at Dougherty Valley High School. I joined this foundation to take the initiative in supporting disabled communities through advocacy and outreach. I believe everyone deserves comfort, dignity, and the resources to survive, regardless of disabilities. I hope to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals with disabilities and raise awareness about the importance of accessibility and inclusion.

Kazuma Iwata

Secretary

My name is Kazuma Iwata, and I am currently a sophomore at Choate Rosemary Hall. I joined this foundation because I believe in its mission to support individuals with physical disabilities. Everyone deserves an equal chance to experience life to the fullest, regardless of their physical limitations. When I have worked with those with physical disabilities in the past, their strength and positivity truly inspired me, and I want to help them receive the recognition and support they deserve. As a part of this foundation, I want to be a part of something that makes a real difference and helps create a more inclusive and understanding community. I am excited to contribute to the foundation’s mission and work alongside others who share this same passion.
